The much-anticipated Hume MRT station on the Downtown Line will officially open to the public on 28 February 2024 at 3pm—much earlier than initially planned. Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat made the announcement on 24 January 2024, highlighting the convenience the station will bring to local commuters.
Convenient Travel Times
Located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, Hume station sits between the Hillview and Beauty World stations. With its opening, the journey from Hume station to Downtown station will be reduced to approximately 30 minutes, compared to the previous 45 minutes. This significant time-saving measure will make trips to the city centre far more efficient.
Easier Access to Local Attractions
- Access to key attractions like the Former Ford Factory
- Proximity to the scenic Rail Corridor
Minister Chee expressed optimism about the station’s role in enhancing access to these popular sites, benefitting both residents and tourists alike.
Features and Facilities
The Hume MRT station will boast two entrances: one along Upper Bukit Timah Road and another along Hume Avenue. Commuters will enjoy covered linkways, offering sheltered access to nearby bus stops and designated pick-up or drop-off points. For those cycling to the station, 60 bicycle parking lots will be available, promoting active mobility.
A Step Toward Better Connectivity
Hume station will be the 35th operational station on the Downtown Line. As part of the government’s commitment, Minister Chee noted that the opening of this station brings Singapore closer to achieving the goal of having eight in ten households within a 10-minute walk from a train station by the 2030s.
“We will continue to expand our rail network to improve connectivity and convenience for our commuters,” he stated, reiterating the ongoing push for better public transport across the island.
