Ng, who is currently the Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), previously served as a Cabinet minister. Before his political career began in 2015, he was the Chief of Defence Force in the Singapore Armed Forces. Additionally, while the People’s Alliance for Reform initially expressed interest in contesting, they have since withdrawn.

At the launch event, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong praised Ng’s resilience and commitment, noting how he led NTUC’s initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Chee Meng has shown his mettle and will serve Jalan Kayu residents with equal commitment and dedication,” he affirmed.
