As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, international leaders are clamouring for immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza. Recently, France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot expressed that Israel’s current measures are woefully inadequate.
Calls for Immediate Action
Barrot said, “It is totally insufficient… Immediate and massive aid is needed,” emphasising that Israel must facilitate unhindered access to aid. This sentiment was echoed by leaders from Britain, Canada, and France, who have threatened sanctions against Israel if it does not halt its military actions in the region.
UAE’s Initiative
In a significant move, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reached an agreement with Israel to deliver crucial humanitarian supplies to Gaza. According to the state news agency WAM, this includes food and essential supplies for bakeries and infant care, targeting the needs of approximately 15,000 civilians.
- UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed spoke with Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar about the aid.
- The European Union’s top diplomat also highlighted the catastrophic situation and announced a review of the EU’s trade agreement with Israel.
- Israel has reportedly allowed around 100 aid trucks to enter Gaza recently.
Ongoing Crisis in Gaza
The situation remains dire as Israel intensifies its military operations against Hamas. Reports indicate that over 500 people in Gaza have died during the recent escalation, with medical, food, and fuel supplies largely blocked since early March.
As these leaders rally for action, the spotlight remains on Israel and the necessity for immediate humanitarian support for the beleaguered civilians of Gaza.
