Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced the cancellation of several flights to and from New York as a heavy winter storm is set to blanket the city. As noted by the US National Weather Service, New Yorkers can expect significant snowfall starting from the afternoon of 26 December, accumulating up to 20cm before the storm subsides on 27 December.
Flight Cancellations and Impact
According to a travel advisory from SIA issued on Thursday, the airline has cancelled several flights due to adverse weather conditions:
- Flight details were not fully disclosed but were communicated to affected passengers.
This weather phenomenon has led to a ripple effect, with FlightAware reporting at least 400 international and domestic flights cancelled across the United States. New York’s JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports are particularly hard hit.
SIA’s Customer Assistance
SIA reassured its customers that they would be contacted regarding the cancellation of their flights. The airline also mentioned that:
- Affected passengers will be reaccommodated on alternative flights.
- Full refunds of the unused portion of their tickets are available.
Customers who made direct bookings with SIA can easily seek a refund online, while those who booked through travel agents or partner airlines should reach out directly to them for assistance.
Other Airlines Respond
As the storm poses challenges for air travel, other Asian carriers are also making adjustments. For example:
- Cathay Pacific has waived rebooking charges for its flights to and from New York.
- EVA Air and Korean Air canceled specific flights due to the weather, highlighting the widespread impact of the storm.
With air travel becoming increasingly complicated, passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates on their flight status.
