Singapore’s civil servants can look forward to a festive boost this year, as the Public Service Division (PSD) announced a year-end bonus of 1.05 months on 25 November 2023. With the economy performing better than expected, the government aims to reward its hardworking public sector employees.
Bonus Breakdown
This year’s bonus package includes:
- 1.05 months year-end bonus for all civil servants
- An additional S$600 one-time payment for junior staff, specifically those in grades MX15 and MX16 and participants in the Operations Support Scheme
- A total of 1.5 months in annual variable component (AVC), which combines year-end and mid-year bonuses
For those in the more junior ranks, this means they could receive additional payments totaling up to S$850.
Economic Context
The decision for this year-end payment ties closely to Singapore’s projected economic growth. The Ministry of Trade and Industry has raised the country’s GDP growth forecast for 2024 to approximately 3.5%. This positive outlook is based on solid performance in the first three quarters of the year, along with recent evaluations of both global and domestic economic conditions.
Continued Support
The government will also maintain the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA), or the traditional 13th-month bonus, which amounts to one month for all civil servants. This consistent financial support underscores the government’s commitment to its employees, especially considering last year’s bonus was only 0.9 months.
In a time where many cities are tightening budgets, Singapore’s approach shows confidence in its public service and economy—a rare but welcome sentiment during uncertain times.
