Government Introduces LifeSG Credits for Large Families in Singapore

10/09/2025Sarah Lin

The Singapore government is stepping up its support for large families by introducing S$1,000 LifeSG Credits for households with three or more children aged between one and six years. This initiative, part of the new Large Families Scheme, was announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during Budget 2025 and aims to alleviate the financial pressures faced by parents.

Details of the LifeSG Credits

The first disbursement of S$1,000 per eligible child took place on 10 September 2024. Families with a third and subsequent child born up to 31 December 2024 will benefit, receiving further payments annually from April 2026 for children born between 2020 and 2025.

  • LifeSG credits for children aged one to six.
  • Payouts will occur each year until the child turns six.
  • Eligible families will be notified via SMS when the credits are available.

Additional Support for Parents

In addition to the LifeSG Credits, the Large Families Scheme enhances existing support:

  • Doubling of the Child Development Account (CDA) First Step Grant to S$10,000 for each third and subsequent child.
  • A S$5,000 Large Family MediSave Grant credited to the mother’s MediSave account for healthcare or delivery expenses.

Accessible Funds and Usage

The LifeSG credits can be accessed through the LifeSG app at various physical and online merchants that accept PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR. This means families can use the funds for essential expenses like:

  • Groceries
  • Pharmacy items
  • Utilities
  • Transport

Families will automatically have these credits credited to their Child Development Account (CDA), ensuring a hassle-free process.

Government’s Commitment

According to the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), the government anticipates spending around S$80 million annually on the Large Families Scheme. This initiative not only provides financial support but also encourages larger family structures in Singapore.

Furthermore, through the Families for Life’s initiative, local merchants are offering additional deals specifically dedicated to large families, reinforcing a community spirit of support for those raising multiple children.
