Lorry Overturns in Tuas
On Monday, 16 June 2024, a lorry skidded and overturned at the junction of Tuas South Avenue 5 and Tuas South Avenue 10 around 7:20 am. Six male passengers, aged between 36 and 50, were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital—conscious and responsive. According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police, the lorry was discovered lying on its side in the outermost right lane, with an ambulance promptly attending to the passengers.
Fire Breaks Out Near Holland Village
A few days later, on Thursday, 19 June 2024, a fire in a flat located at Block 5 Holland Close near Holland Village resulted in four individuals, including two firefighters, needing hospital care. The blaze erupted on the 23rd floor of the Housing and Development Board (HDB) block around 7:25 pm. The SCDF reported that two people managed to evacuate the flat before firefighters arrived, suffering from smoke inhalation.
- Two firefighters experienced heat exhaustion, requiring medical attention.
- About 100 residents were evacuated by emergency services.
- The fire was extinguished using two water jets.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that flames were visible from the flat, and heat and smoke damage affected adjacent units. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
