An Australian woman was arrested at Changi Airport for allegedly stealing a box of anti-ageing supplements earlier this year. The incident, which occurred in April, has taken a rather dramatic turn now that she has returned to Singapore months later.
The Incident
On 14 April 2024, the 51-year-old woman was recorded on CCTV leaving a Guardian outlet in Terminal 1 without paying for a box of supplements worth S$507.30 (US$390). The theft was reported on 7 May when the missing item was discovered.
The Investigation
After identifying the suspect through the CCTV footage, Singapore Police were able to track her down, but she had already left the country. Fast forward to 2 November 2024, she was apprehended while in transit at Changi Airport for another flight.
The Legal Repercussions
The woman will face charges of theft in dwelling in court on 12 November 2024. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to seven years in jail or face a hefty fine, or both. The police have reiterated their strong stance against shop theft, assuring the public that such cases will be dealt with firmly.
