SINGAPORE: Banana Leaf Apolo, a beloved eatery renowned for its fish head curry, has successfully resolved a payment dispute with its poultry supplier, Toh Thye San Farm. The resolution comes just ahead of a scheduled court hearing on 4 July 2024, which was initially set to discuss a winding-up application against the restaurant.
According to a statement released on 30 June 2024, the restaurant made the necessary payment to Toh Thye San Farm on 27 June, thereby allowing the impending court application to be withdrawn without any order as to costs. C. Sankaranathan, the CEO of Banana Leaf Apolo, confirmed that “the issue between both parties has been resolved in full.”
Background of the Dispute
The court application was filed on 11 June 2024, sparking concerns among patrons of the popular dining spot, especially as it has been a well-established fixture in Little India since 1974. The notice regarding this application was published in the Government Gazette on 24 June.
Both outlets of Banana Leaf Apolo were still operational during this period, despite previous scrutiny from the Singapore Food Agency for accumulation of demerit points—specifically, 14 points within a year. This led to a two-week licence suspension for the outlet on Race Course Road in November 2023.
What’s Next?
With the dispute now resolved, Banana Leaf Apolo aims to continue serving its customers while maintaining a high standard of food safety and hygiene. The community remains hopeful that the focus will return to the restaurant’s celebrated dishes.

For any creditors or contributors wishing to express support or opposition, the notice had indicated their right to appear at the court hearing. But with the resolution now in place, further legal action seems unlikely.
