After a series of disruptions, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is taking decisive steps to restore the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system for buses, impacting transport across Singapore.
System Issues Identified
On January 22, 2024, LTA provided an update detailing a “memory cache build-up” in the on-board systems of certain buses, which led to a breakdown in data transmission. This glitch affected approximately 50 per cent of the public bus fleet.
What Commuters Can Expect
- The restoration process is estimated to take about four days, during which the ETA system will undergo testing and stabilisation.
- From 23 January 2024, over 60 per cent of bus arrival timings will be accessible through various platforms, including electronic displays at bus stops and apps like MyTransport.SG and CityMapper.
- Commuters should be aware that certain bus arrival times may still be missing or inaccurate during this recovery period, but these issues are expected to decrease.
Bus Services Operational
Even amidst the system reset, bus services continued to run as scheduled, ensuring that commuters can still rely on public transport. For accurate information on bus frequencies, commuters are encouraged to check the SimplyGo app and the websites of public transport operators.
LTA’s Assurance
LTA expressed gratitude to commuters for their patience during this disruption. They are committed to ensuring that the service returns to full operational capability as quickly as possible. In a city where public transport is a lifeline, it’s vital for systems like the ETA to function smoothly.
