Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago in 1955, was elected by 133 cardinal electors on 8 May at 6.06pm Rome time. This momentous occasion was met with overwhelming gratitude as the archdiocese expressed its thanks to God for the new Vicar of Christ. In their statement, they said, “We rejoice at the election of Pope Leo XIV as the successor of Saint Peter and Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.”
