A dramatic rescue unfolded in Jurong West as the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) successfully freed a man whose entire left arm was trapped in a drain pipe under his kitchen sink. The incident occurred on Thursday, 27 November 2024, at around 1.35pm at Block 338A Tah Ching Road.
Swift Action by SCDF
Responders from Jurong Fire Station and SCDF’s elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team sprang into action after receiving the emergency call. Upon arrival, they found the man conscious but stuck beneath the kitchen sink.
The Rescue Operation
- The SCDF team first dismantled the kitchen sink and surrounding cabinet to gain access.
- A secondary team was dispatched to the unit directly below to cut a segment of the drain pipe, allowing for a closer look at the trapped limb.
- With the help of a lubricant, they carefully manoeuvred the arm free after about two hours.
The SCDF reported that a medical team from Ng Teng Fong General Hospital was on-site, administering support and an intravenous drip throughout the operation.
Aftermath
Once freed, the man was promptly transported to the National University Hospital for further medical evaluation. Thankfully, he remained conscious throughout the intense ordeal.
