Singapore Inaugurates Anti-Vaping Campaign Amid Rising Concerns

In a bold move to combat a growing public health threat, Singapore has launched a comprehensive anti-vaping microsite titled Stop Vaping. This initiative comes directly on the heels of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s announcement at the National Day Rally on 17 August 2024, where he emphasised that the government will treat vaping as a serious drug issue.

New Measures Against Vaping

The microsite aims to educate the public on the dangers of vaping and encourage a reduction in usage. The timing of the launch is significant, considering rising concerns about the health implications of e-cigarettes among the youth.

Health Sciences Authority‘s Crackdown

  • In conjunction with this initiative, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has also responded to alerts from courier companies uncovering illegal drugs and e-vapourisers containing etomidate.
  • These raids, which took place on 22 July 2024, aim to shine a light on the secondary issues connected to vaping.

Community Support Initiatives

Switching gears, the FairPrice Group has announced another community initiative. Over 12,000 Primary 6 pupils will be able to enjoy free breakfast bundles at various Cheers and FairPrice Xpress outlets on 3 and 4 September 2024. This programme is designed to offer support as pupils prepare for their upcoming Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE).
