SPF and Interpol Unite to Combat Cybercrime in Operation Secure
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has made significant strides in the fight against cybercrime, having taken down more than 1,000 local internet protocol (IP) addresses linked to malicious activities. This was achieved through a collaborative effort known as Operation Secure, conducted in partnership with Interpol and various law enforcement agencies from across 26 countries.
Operation Overview
Operation Secure ran from January to April 2024 and was aimed at dismantling cybercriminal infrastructure, particularly targeting infostealer malware. This type of malware stealthily infiltrates computer systems to harvest sensitive information, which is then transmitted to rogue servers controlled by cybercriminals.
Key Achievements
- Over 1,000 Singapore-based IP addresses taken down.
- More than 20,000 malicious IP addresses and domains neutralised globally.
- Enhanced cooperation among law enforcement bodies from 26 nations.
According to the SPF, the operation’s success hinged on extensive mapping of physical networks and a series of targeted take-downs, effectively disrupting cross-border criminal syndicates.
Statements from SPF Leadership
Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Tay, Commander of the Cybercrime Command, emphasised the importance of collaboration: “Our strong collaboration with key local and international partners in Operation Secure was a key success factor in dismantling these cybercriminal networks.”
Tay further reassured the public: “We will continue to work with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and other like-minded partners to protect Singaporeans and businesses from threats in cyberspace.”
This operation not only showcased SPF’s commitment to combating cyber threats but also reinvigorated their aim of becoming a global player in the ongoing battle against cybercrime.
