The Kallang Emerges from Singapore Sports Hub: A New Era for Local Sports and Entertainment

The Singapore Sports Hub has officially rebranded as The Kallang, a move aimed at honouring Singapore’s rich sporting heritage while expanding its identity. This transition, announced on 28 November 2023, reflects a commitment to create a vibrant, multi-use destination for all Singaporeans.

A Tribute to Heritage

The Kallang Group, previously known as Kallang Alive Sports Management, noted that the Kallang area has been pivotal in hosting significant national athletic events, fostering communal pride through memorable moments, including the enthusiastic Kallang Roar and Kallang Wave. Keith Magnus, chairman of The Kallang Group, emphasised that the stadium is more than just a venue; it’s a unifying experience for Singaporeans.

Exciting Revamps Ahead

  • The existing Kallang Wave Mall will undergo a major facelift.
  • New alfresco food and beverage options will enhance visitor experience.
  • Family-friendly spaces and improved play areas will be introduced for children.
  • Competition-ready padel courts and upgraded climbing walls are also on the list.

The enhancement works will commence from the second quarter of 2026, with completion anticipated in 2028. The mall will remain operational during this period to ensure continued community access to its offerings.

Creating Unforgettable Experiences

With plans for the upcoming Countdown 2026 event, featuring a concert headlined by K-pop sensation Super Junior, and community activities, The Kallang aims to become a destination where global acts meet local talent. This annual countdown will include Singapore’s longest fireworks display, lasting 35 minutes.

A Hub for All

In recent years, the Kallang precinct has hosted an impressive amount of events, catering to around 9.5 million visitors, thanks to a diverse programming calendar that includes major concerts and community gatherings. Following the government’s acquisition of the Sports Hub in 2022 from SportsHub Private Limited, the local sports and entertainment landscape has been significantly reshaped.

With the National Day Parade set to return to the National Stadium in 2026 and the proposed developments unveiled in Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally speech, the future of The Kallang is looking bright—a true testament to national pride and community spirit.
