In recent events that have raised concerns about public safety, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has made significant arrests in two separate incidents involving suspected drug-related activities.
Bugis Incident: Arrest and Injuries
A 30-year-old man was arrested for drug offences and assaulting police officers in Bugis. This incident unfolded on 9 May 2024, when police officers encountered a red car parked in a suspicious manner outside Bugis+. As they conducted checks, they found drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
During the arrest, the driver allegedly resisted, leading to a struggle that resulted in minor injuries to two police officers. The driver was subsequently taken to the hospital, later being arrested for causing hurt to public servants and suspected drug offences, which are now under investigation by the Central Narcotics Bureau.
Sengkang Violence: Drug Transaction Gone Wrong
Meanwhile, in a separate event, a man and a woman were arrested following a violent incident captured on video. The police received reports on 7 May 2024 of a man being assaulted after a suspicious transaction involving a plastic bag containing unknown substances. This video circulated online and prompted police action.
Officers from the Central Police Division, alongside the Criminal Investigation Department and the Central Narcotics Bureau, executed a raid in the Sengkang West Way area, leading to the apprehension of a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman for serious offences. The man is also facing charges for weapon possession, with various items seized, including machetes, an axe, and over S$3,000 in cash.
Police Response and Community Reassurance
- The police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards violence and drug-related activities.
- They urged the community to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour.
- Legal consequences for drug-related offences, especially concerning e-vaporisers, are severe, underscoring the need for public compliance with local laws.
As investigations continue, the SPF remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Singaporeans.
