A couple has been sentenced to three weeks in jail after livestreaming obscene acts at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) void deck in Boon Lay. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, 31, and her husband, Adrian Ching Kah Siang, 36, made headlines for their controversial actions that unfolded on 27 September 2024.
The Livestream Incident
On the fateful day, both were captured on video by concerned residents, engaging in indecent acts while Lan donned a translucent dress. As part of a challenge posed by her viewers on TikTok, Lan performed these acts in exchange for virtual gifts, under the watchful eye of her husband, who acted as a lookout.
- Location: Void deck of Block 266 Boon Lay Drive
- Date of Incident: 27 September 2024
- Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Legal Proceedings
Lan pleaded guilty to one count of performing an obscene act in public, whilst Ching admitted to abetting her actions. Both faced charges related to the public indecency that took place during a busy time when children were returning home from school.
Public Reaction and Court Sentencing
The authorities were alerted by a resident who witnessed the acts and called the police. After a short investigation, both were arrested. The prosecution emphasised that such behaviour in a highly visible area forced local residents to witness their act, effectively making them ‘hostages’ to the incident.
During the sentencing, District Judge Jasvender Kaur expressed that the couple’s behaviour was highly offensive and warranted incarceration. She declined Ching’s request for a gag order, citing that it wouldn’t be appropriate.
Regrets Expressed
Both individuals showed remorse in court, with Ching stating, “From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely apologise to the court and the people of Singapore.” Lan conveyed her need to support her daughter back in Vietnam, revealing financial difficulties.
This incident highlights the potential repercussions of inappropriate behaviour in public spaces, reminding us all to think twice—especially when the camera is rolling.
