The buzz of excitement is in the air as Singapore gears up for its grand Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2025. This New Year’s Eve celebration promises a spectacular display, and to ensure everyone’s safety, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) will deploy multiple drones overhead.
What’s New This Year?
The countdown, taking place from 31 December 2024 into the early hours of 1 January 2025, will see an enhanced police presence with over 800 officers, up from 600 last year. The introduction of drone technology aims to monitor crowd sizes in real time, ensuring a safe and enjoyable event for all.
Drone Operations Explained
- Equipped with advanced features: The drones will be fitted with spotlights, blinkers, and speakers. This setup not only enhances visibility but allows police to broadcast important safety announcements.
- AI-powered crowd counting: The Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) has collaborated with the police to implement a tool known as the Q-Crowd Counter. This system utilises artificial intelligence and computer vision to accurately determine crowd numbers within seconds.
- Real-time data: The drones will transmit live footage to monitor crowd sizes, providing crucial data to prevent overcrowding incidents.
Enhanced Management Systems
Besides drones, crowd management will also include the use of Mobicam systems. These static police cameras come equipped with blinkers, speakers, and electronic signages to convey audio advisories and visual messages.
Expectations and Precautions
With large crowds anticipated around Marina Bay, it’s expected that around 500,000 people will attend the event, although the number may be lower due to additional celebrations at 17 heartland sites.
Visitors are advised to keep track of updates via the Crowd@MarinaBay portal for real-time information on crowd levels and area closures. Other alerts related to transport delays will also be communicated, so patience is key!
Local Festivities
Celebrations will be held at various locations including Sentosa and Orchard Road, fostering a spirit of unity as Singapore commemorates 60 years of independence.
As DAC Wong Keng Hoe noted, the countdown is an “iconic event” for our nation. So let’s celebrate in style while keeping safety in mind!
