Grab Unveils New Safety Features for Teens and Shared Ordering System

In an effort to enhance safety for teenagers using their service, Grab has unveiled a suite of new features during its inaugural event, GrabX, held on 8 April 2024 at JW Marriott Singapore South Beach. These updates come at a time when digital solutions are becoming increasingly central to daily life in Southeast Asia.

Smart Solutions for Safer Rides

Starting May 2024, teenagers aged 13 to 17 will be able to link their Grab accounts to their parents’ Grab for Family accounts. This feature allows parents to book rides on their behalf, ensuring safer travel for young users. Grab’s Chief Product Officer, Philipp Kandal, highlighted the importance of providing secure, trackable transport options for this age group.

  • PIN verification will be required for ride initiation, ensuring that teens only travel with the correct drivers.
  • Top-rated drivers will be prioritised for teen rides, enhancing safety further.
  • The new AudioProtect feature will record audio during rides and leverage AI to detect any dangerous situations in real-time.

Innovative Technology Integration

These safety measures are supported by advanced AI technology. Grab is deepening partnerships with leading AI firms—OpenAI and Anthropic—to refine its services further. Mr Kandal stated that the technology will monitor unusual trip activity such as route deviations or unplanned stops, providing peace of mind for parents.

Shared Saver Feature: A Cost-Effective Solution

In addition to safety features, Grab launched the Shared Saver option, which allows users to join shared food delivery orders with others nearby. This feature is designed to help users save on delivery fees while also maintaining convenience.

  • Users can see a countdown timer to join shared orders—adding urgency to decisions.
  • The shared order will split delivery costs among participants, making it economically viable.

Further Enhancements on the Way

Other notable features unveiled at the event include the Dine Out Discovery tool, which helps users in searching for and reserving dining options with various filters. This feature aligns with Grab’s commitment to simplifying the everyday lives of users.

With these updates, Grab is not just enhancing transport safety—it’s also integrating innovative solutions to cater to the evolving needs of Singaporeans and the Southeast Asian market.
