Graceson Ang: Ex-Inmate Faces New Legal Troubles Following Documentary Fame

Graceson Ang, a familiar face from CNA’s Inside Maximum Security, is back in the spotlight for troubling reasons. The 40-year-old Singaporean appeared in court via video link on 24 July 2024 to face multiple charges stemming from incidents that took place in 2023.

Charges Against Ang

Ang is currently charged with three serious offences:

  • Failing to present his passport when leaving Singapore at Woodlands Checkpoint in March 2023.
  • Providing false information about losing his passport during a subsequent application.
  • Importing mini LED flashlight stun guns on 7 March 2023.

Notably, he was on a remission order from November 2022 until June 2025 when these offences occurred.

Court Proceedings and Potential Penalties

The legal proceedings have been adjourned as authorities, including the Singapore Customs and the Central Narcotics Bureau, continue their investigations. The prosecution has requested a two-week extension for this process to complete.

If convicted of leaving Singapore without a passport, Ang could face:

  • Up to six months in jail, a fine of up to S$1,000, or both.
  • For lying on his passport application—a term of up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to S$10,000.
  • For importing stun guns—up to two years in jail and a hefty fine of up to S$100,000.

Ex-Inmate’s Journey

Ang’s story is compelling. Featured in the four-episode documentary aired in January 2022, he candidly shared his emotional struggles, highlighting fears of losing his family and the regrets of missing time with his children.

As the court date approaches, many in Singapore are keenly watching this case unfold, hoping for a resolution that respects the complexities of his past and the law’s demands.
