ICA and Police Step Up Enforcement with Recent Arrests in Singapore

In a busy week for law enforcement, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Singapore Police have made significant arrests related to immigration violations and a violent robbery.

ICA Conducts Inland Enforcement Operation

On 16 December 2024, ICA officers arrested three individuals aged between 26 and 35 in Jurong West for overstaying their social visit passes. The arrested parties included an Indian man, a Filipino woman, and a Nepali woman, who were suspected of working illegally without the necessary work permits.

  • The 29-year-old Indian man was also apprehended for harbouring these immigration offenders.
  • ICA’s investigations into the four individuals are ongoing.
  • Those found guilty of harbouring immigration offenders face up to two years in jail and fines of up to $6,000.

Teenager Arrested for Armed Robbery

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old teenager was arrested on 19 December 2024 for his suspected involvement in an armed robbery reported earlier that week. The robbery took place along Jurong West Street 93 when the teenager allegedly brandished a karambit and demanded the victim’s mobile phone and gold ring.

  • The police were alerted to the incident at around 10.35 pm on the night of the robbery.
  • Within 10 hours, the suspect was apprehended, and both the stolen items and the involved weapon were recovered.
  • If convicted, he faces a jail term of five to 20 years, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling such acts of crime, promising that they will spare no effort in bringing offenders to justice. Singaporeans are reminded of the importance of adhering to immigration regulations and the consequences of violating them.
