SINGAPORE – In a significant legal development, former Singapore Idol judge Ken Lim has been acquitted of insulting a woman’s modesty after an alleged incident that occurred over 12 years ago. District Judge Wong Peck delivered the verdict on 11 December 2024, clearing Lim of the charges stemming from a meeting with a then-26-year-old aspiring singer-songwriter at Hype Records in July 2012.
The Incident in Question
During the trial, the accusations were serious. Lim was accused of asking the young woman if she was a virgin and making inappropriate comments such as, “What if I have sex with you right now.” This encounter allegedly took place during a professional meeting, where she sought advice on her music career.
Prosecution and Defence
- The prosecution relied heavily on testimony from the woman, her husband, and family.
- In his defence, Lim, now 60, took the stand asserting that the woman was being untruthful.
- His legal team called other witnesses, including well-known singer-songwriter Corinne May.
Future Legal Challenges
Although this case ended with an acquittal, Lim is not in the clear. He currently faces six additional charges, involving four other women. Most notably, he is accused of molesting a woman at the same Hype Records office in November 2021, with that trial still underway before Principal District Judge Lee Lit Cheng.
Legal experts note that if found guilty of the remaining charges, Lim could face stringent penalties, including potential jail time or fines.
As the legal proceedings continue, the identities of the women involved are protected by gag orders, ensuring confidentiality throughout these high-profile cases.
