Lawrence Wong Unveils New $500 CDC Vouchers for Households in 2024

Singapore households can now claim S$500 in Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers, aimed at easing the cost of living, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced on 13 May 2024 at the Nee Soon South Community Club.

Details of the CDC Vouchers

Each household will receive S$250 for spending at participating hawkers and heartland merchants, and another S$250 for use at selected supermarkets. This initiative forms part of a total allocation of S$800 in CDC vouchers to be provided throughout the financial year.

Participating Supermarkets

The supermarkets taking part in this scheme include:

  • NTUC FairPrice
  • Giant Singapore
  • Cold Storage
  • HAO Mart
  • Sheng Siong
  • Ang Mo Supermarket
  • Prime Supermarket
  • U Stars Supermarket

The digital vouchers are valid until 31 December 2025, ensuring ample time for the households to redeem them.

How to Claim the Vouchers

To claim the vouchers, one member from each household can log in through go.gov.sg/cdcv using their Singpass. After claiming, they will receive an SMS with a unique voucher link which can be shared with other members of the household.

Supporting Local Merchants

In conjunction with the launch, major supermarkets are rolling out promotions. For instance, FairPrice is offering a S$6 return voucher for every S$60 spent, while Sheng Siong is providing discounts of up to 50% on selected products—with terms applying.

Continued Support from the Government

Prime Minister Wong reassured citizens that this initiative is not a one-off exercise. “We will continue to provide help for as long as it is needed,” he said, emphasising the government’s commitment to reviewing and strengthening social support systems across various sectors, including housing, healthcare, and education.

Vouchers’ Impact So Far

As of now, approximately 97.3% of households have claimed the previous voucher tranche, amounting to over S$324 million spent. Since the CDC voucher scheme’s inception in December 2021, more than S$1.92 billion has been disbursed across various spending avenues.

In the current economic situation, whilst sustainability is a critical consideration, Wong noted that the financial policies implemented earlier in the decade have placed the country in a strong fiscal position to support such initiatives.
