SINGAPORE: Commuters can look forward to more convenient travel options as the new Woodleigh and Pasir Ris bus interchanges are slated to open later this month. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the official opening dates on 3 April 2024. Woodleigh bus interchange will commence operations on 20 April 2024, while the Pasir Ris bus interchange will open on 27 April 2024.
What’s New and Different
These new interchanges will increase the total number of Integrated Transport Hubs in Singapore to 14 — a significant milestone. Woodleigh bus interchange will be executed by SBS Transit, and is located within the integrated development of Woodleigh Village, directly linked to Woodleigh MRT station.
On the other hand, the new Pasir Ris bus interchange will be operated by Go-Ahead Singapore and is part of a larger development next to Pasir Ris Mall, conveniently situated next to Pasir Ris MRT station.
Improved Connectivity
- All 17 public bus services from the existing Pasir Ris bus interchange will relocate to the new one, maintaining their routes and stopping points.
- The Basic Military Training Centre Shuttle Bus will also relocate to a designated area adjacent to the new interchange.
- Bus service 146 will be amended to run bi-directionally along Bidadari Park Drive, serving four additional bus stops.
- A new bus service, 148, will be introduced as a loop service connecting Woodleigh bus interchange and Potong Pasir.
Commuter-Centric Features
Both interchanges are designed with user needs in mind, boasting several inclusive features:
- Barrier-free access at key entrances ensures movement for everyone, including families and seniors.
- Dedicated priority queues with seating at all boarding berths.
- Wheelchair-accessible toilets and baby care rooms equipped with touchless, auto-sliding doors.
- A commuter care room for individuals needing a quieter, calming space.
Additionally, staff facilities such as canteens, toilets, a cleaner’s room, and a staff lounge are integrated into the design, highlighting a focus on community and worker welfare.
Sustainable Design
The LTA is also implementing energy-saving features at both interchanges, aligning with Singapore’s sustainability goals. Temporary wayfinding measures will be established as construction continues on the underpass connecting Woodleigh bus interchange to Woodleigh MRT. Commuters are asked to bear with the bus operators during this transition phase as they adapt to the new systems.
As the government rolls out these enhancements, the aim is for a smoother, more efficient public transport experience in Singapore.
