In a surprising turn of events, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has tested positive for COVID-19 on 3 December 2024, marking his first battle with the virus. He took to Facebook to share his experience, revealing that he initially dismissed his bad sore throat as a simple flu after completing several overseas work trips.
“Turns out, I’ve finally succumbed to COVID after all these years!” he candidly noted. Despite the diagnosis, he reassured the public that he is feeling fine and will be self-isolating while working from home.
Recent Travels
Mr Wong had recently returned from a trip to Bangkok, courtesy of an invitation from Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Prior to that, he attended the APEC summit in Peru and the G20 summit in Brazil. Given the current holiday season, he underscored the importance of public health precautions.
Public Health Reminders
- Stay updated on flu shots and vaccinations.
- Wear a mask if feeling unwell.
- Take necessary precautions to protect oneself and others.
As many citizens travel during this festive time, Mr Wong’s advice serves as a timely reminder to prioritise health and safety.
