Raymond Ng Charged with Cheating 12 Victims Over Vendshare Scheme

In a striking legal development, Raymond Ng Kai Hoe, the husband of anti-vaccine activist Iris Koh, has been charged with cheating 12 individuals related to his vending machine business, Vendshare. On 7 February 2024, Ng appeared in court facing multiple counts of deception that could result in significant penalties if convicted.

Details of the Allegations

The charges stem from allegations that Ng, 51, duped the victims into investing in co-ownership of coffee vending machines, knowing the claims to be false. The fraudulent activities supposedly occurred between 25 August 2019 and 28 October 2020, with the amount involved exceeding S$60,800 (around US$45,000).

  • Largest single amount: One individual reportedly lost S$13,900.
  • Other amounts: Victims were misled into paying amounts ranging from S$1,000 to S$2,500.

Legal Proceedings and Consequences

As of now, Ng is out on bail of S$15,000, with his next court appearance scheduled for 7 March 2024. If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison and hefty fines for each count of cheating.

Background on Ng’s Legal Troubles

Ng’s involvement in multiple civil lawsuits has kept him in the headlines. Recently, he was linked to the tragic death of Geno Ong, a 46-year-old woman who reportedly succumbed to financial pressures exacerbated by lawsuits Ng initiated against her. A coroner’s inquiry determined her death on 6 September 2024 was a suicide, with no foul play suspected.

Additionally, Ng and Koh attempted to initiate a defamation claim against former Nominated Member of Parliament Calvin Cheng over his Facebook comments concerning Covid-19 vaccinations. This suit was dismissed by the district court.

A Business with a Checkered Past

Vendshare, which has undergone various name changes including Get Vending and SG Satay, continues to operate in Singapore’s competitive beverage sector. According to the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, the company is still registered at Pines Industrial Building on Macpherson Road.
