The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is currently engaged in a vital humanitarian mission, delivering crucial aid to Gaza. Coordinated with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, this airdrop operation is part of Singapore’s ongoing commitment to support those in need.
Details of the Operation
- The operation began on 15 August 2024.
- A C-130 Hercules transport aircraft and personnel from both the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and Singapore Army are deployed for this mission.
- The aid consists of medical supplies from the Ministry of Health and food donations from various NGOs, including Humanity Matters, Caritas Humanitarian Aid, Mercy Relief, and the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation.
Support and Coordination
The logistical efforts are managed through the Changi Regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Coordination Centre. Senior Minister of State for Defence, Zaqy Mohamad, has been active in meeting with Jordanian officials to discuss further collaboration.
Visit to Jordan
During his working visit from 17 to 18 August 2024, SMS Zaqy visited personnel at the King Abdullah II Air Base. He expressed gratitude towards the Jordanian government for facilitating the airdrop operations. He highlighted the importance of these efforts, stating, “This is our collective effort representing our people’s compassion and push for humanity.”
Future Collaboration
Beyond immediate aid, Singapore is exploring partnerships with Egypt and Jordan to provide medical support, especially as the situation develops. An advanced team has already been dispatched to Egypt to coordinate ongoing humanitarian efforts.
