A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, 17 February 2024, when a fire broke out in the engine room of the Singapore-registered bulk carrier, MANDY, while it was off the coast of China. According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), two crew members lost their lives in this unfortunate event.
Details of the Incident
The fire started around 7.15 am Singapore time and was quickly extinguished by the vessel’s crew. At the time of the incident, there were 25 crew members—all from Myanmar—on board. Thankfully, no Singaporeans were present.
