The incident unfolded on 13 November at approximately 9:30 am when Marhizan lost control of his trailer while attempting a sharp left turn on Jalan Bukit Tengah. The ensuing chaos saw a heavy container topple, crushing Lee’s vehicle. At the same time, another car driven by 25-year-old Tan Chou Theng was also struck, resulting in his hospitalization with serious injuries.
Legal Proceedings
- Marhizan Johari, 51, could face up to 10 years in prison, a maximum fine of RM50,000 (approximately US$11,160), and a five-year driving suspension if convicted.
- The court, citing public interest and a perceived lack of remorse from Marhizan, denied him bail.

Impact on the Victim’s Family
Lee’s mother, Lim Sheau Ling, expressed her devastation and her desire for justice. She recalled her daughter’s final words, saying, “Mummy, it hurts so much!” Hundreds gathered for Lee’s cremation on 17 November, emphasising the community’s grief.
Community Support and Government Response
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong has reached out to offer condolences to the bereaved family. In addition, the family will receive assistance from Malaysia’s Social Security Organisation (Sosco), including a one-time funeral benefit of RM3,000 (about US$670) and monthly payments of RM913.50.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that an investigation is underway to determine if the trailer company violated safety regulations, with potential suspension of its operating licence if found guilty.
