A chaotic scene unfolded in Hougang Avenue 8 on 17 April 2024, as a young man was arrested following an alarming attack that left multiple individuals injured. The 22-year-old suspect reportedly engaged in a violent rampage, slashing a bystander before turning on police officers who attempted to apprehend him.
The Incident
According to the police, several emergency calls were made around 1.10pm reporting an incident at Block 681. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect running around naked, a sight not typical for the usually calm neighbourhood. Eyewitness accounts and police statements indicate that the man allegedly attacked a 31-year-old man prior to their arrival.
Police Response
- The man allegedly injured three police officers while being arrested, using a wooden plank embedded with nails.
- Fortunately, the officers sustained only minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call for assistance at approximately 1.30pm, swiftly transporting the injured bystander to Sengkang General Hospital.
Charges and Ongoing Investigations
The young man faces serious charges including voluntarily causing hurt by grievous means and for voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servants from their duty. Authorities have seized both the weapon used in the initial attack and the plank, as investigations continue into this startling case.
In recent months, public safety remains a critical concern in urban areas, and events like this raise questions about community well-being and data on similar incidents.
