Singapore’s sports sweetheart, Yip Pin Xiu, has had quite the year and it just got even better! Known for her extraordinary achievements in the pool, the seven-time Paralympic gold medallist recently announced her engagement to her boyfriend, Bruce, in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Engagement Announcement
On 11 December 2024, Yip shared the news that Bruce popped the question, albeit a bit nervously. “He couldn’t remember a word of the whole speech,” she recalled. Yet, his love was clearly conveyed without any need for fancy words. This couple is officially in their ‘fiance era’ — and they’re thrilled!
A Year of Milestones
- Retained her gold medals in the 50m and 100m Backstroke S2 at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
- Set world records for both events.
- Won her fifth Sportswoman of the Year award at the Singapore Disability Sports Awards.
With these accomplishments, Yip continues to inspire Singaporeans, proving that determination knows no bounds. Following her stellar performance in Paris, she also became the first para athlete to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore. Reflecting on this, she expressed her gratitude: “It is a proud moment for me… I hope to inspire others to achieve their dreams regardless of ability.”
A Heartfelt Reaction
Bruce couldn’t hide his feelings either, commenting on Yip’s post, “Baby, I never thought I would ever be lucky to even have met you in my life, let alone call you my love.” Many celebrities and fans, including Dennis Chew and Jean Danker, chimed in to congratulate the happy couple. As Yip gears up to plan her wedding, there’s no doubt her determination and passion will also shine through in this new chapter of her life.
