GrabCab Launches Taxi Services in Singapore with Unique Driver Incentives
SINGAPORE: GrabCab is set to hit the roads in July 2024, introducing a fleet of 40 hybrid Toyota Prius taxis aimed at boosting ride availability and attracting new drivers. Having received its licence earlier this year, GrabCab will be Singapore’s sixth taxi operator, joining names like Comfort and CityCab.
Fleet and Features
The initial fleet will feature:
- 40 fifth-generation electric hybrid Toyota Prius cars
- Advanced technologies including AI-powered dashcams for safety
- Integration with the Grab Driver app through a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT)
According to Grab, the taxis will also accommodate street-hailing and app bookings, ensuring convenience for commuters.
Driver Incentives
GrabCab is rolling out various benefits to attract drivers, notably:
- Welcome Bonus: S$1,888 for a 12-month package and S$3,888 for a 36-month package for the first 100 drivers.
- Safe Driving Bonus: S$1,000 for every 12 months free of at-fault accidents.
- TDVL Application Sponsorship: Up to S$400 covered for new drivers.’s
Victor Sim, head of GrabCab, stated the firm aims to reactivate inactive Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence (TDVL) holders rather than compete with existing taxi drivers. He emphasised that attracting new and dormant drivers would be the primary focus of their strategy.
Competitive Pricing Structure
GrabCab’s pricing structure mirrors that of existing service providers:
- Flag down fare for standard 4-seater: S$4.60
- Increment of S$0.26 for every 400m travelled up to 10km
- Increment of S$0.26 for every 350m thereafter
With competitive rental rates starting from S$117 per day, GrabCab seeks to draw a diverse range of drivers, ensuring affordability paired with comprehensive benefits.
Future Fleet Expansion
Following its debut, GrabCab plans to scale its fleet to meet a minimum requirement of 800 taxis. Sim mentioned there are no intentions of waiting until the three-year grace period to reach this goal, insisting on a sustainable expansion that aligns with driver demand.
