Kawal Pal Singh Rules Out Candidacy for General Election 2025

SINGAPORE: In a recent announcement, Kawal Pal Singh, a lawyer and nephew of former People’s Action Party (PAP) MP Inderjit Singh, confirmed he will not be contesting in the upcoming General Election scheduled for 3 May 2025. Speaking on his social media, Singh shared his decision comes as he prioritises family and professional commitments.

Career and Community Commitment

Singh, 41, is the managing partner at Tito Isaac and Co LLP, specialising in civil and commercial litigation among other areas. Despite stepping back from electoral politics, he emphasized his ongoing dedication to serving both the Sikh and wider Indian communities.

“At this stage of my life, I want to focus on balancing my professional commitments with time for my young family,” Singh stated in a post on 15 April 2024. His decision follows speculation about his candidacy sparked during a recent walkabout in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC alongside Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat.

Support from the Community

While he will not be on the ballot, Singh expressed gratitude towards those who have supported him: “I’m truly grateful for the trust and belief placed in me.” He added that he intends to support the PAP in meaningful capacities.

Looking Ahead

  • Nomination Day is set for 23 April 2024, where the final list of candidates will be confirmed.
  • Voters will head to the polls to cast their votes on 3 May 2024.
  • Singh was previously involved in various grassroots initiatives, including house visits in Sengkang West.

Singh’s peers in the party, including Ms Elysa Chen, has also been positioning herself as a potential candidate, showcasing the PAP’s efforts to engage new leaders. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong recently highlighted her contributions in a video announcement.

The PAP continues to prepare for GE2025 with a roster of candidates, reflecting Singapore’s dynamic political landscape.
