SCDF Rescues Three from Collapsed Warehouse in Toa Payoh

In a dramatic rescue operation on 28 January 2024, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) saved three individuals, including two young children, after a mezzanine floor collapsed at a Toa Payoh warehouse. The incident highlights the importance of swift emergency responses in ensuring the safety of those trapped in hazardous situations.

Details of the Incident

At around 5.50pm, SCDF received an alert about the collapse at 11 Toa Payoh Industrial Park. According to SCDF, four people were initially trapped under heaps of rugs following the structural failure. Fortunately, one person managed to free himself prior to the responders’ arrival, informing them of the remaining trio still stuck.

Rescue Operation

  • Firefighters from Bishan Fire Station were first on the scene.
  • Rescue efforts involved personnel from the Special Response Unit and Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART).
  • Two SCDF search dogs assisted in locating the trapped individuals.

With a significant area of approximately 20m by 10m to navigate, the rescue team meticulously cleared the pile of rugs and used tools to cut through the storage racks. The entire operation took an estimated 90 minutes, with the teamwork and efficiency of the SCDF personnel evident throughout.

After the Rescue

All four individuals—now safe—were transported to hospitals for further evaluation. The adults were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while the children were sent to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, SCDF reported that all individuals were conscious during transport.

Such incidents remind us of the necessity to prioritise safety in occupational settings and the dedication of our emergency responders. A great shout out is due to our brave SCDF members who put their lives on the line to protect ours!
